I was driving home from Rocky OK and was 6 miles outside of Throckmorton Texas about 30 miles east of Graham Texas.

Traveling at the posted speed limit (70). Sky was clear sunny .12:35 pm 103 degrees out. I Topped a hill and hit a Doe that had been standing in the middle of my lane.

I couldn't / wouldn't swerve into oncoming traffic. I headed to the right shoulder and that's the way she ran. I slowed down to maybe 65 before She center punched the front end. She kept bouncing off of the front end while I was pushing on the brake pedal, She finally fell down and I ran over her with the front left wheel, drug her 200 yards. Then she broke free and I ran over her with the left rear tire.

I pulled over to the shoulder then off onto the grass and took inventory. My 11 year old son was OK, now awake from his nap. I was good. We prayed together and thanked the lord for seeing us through the whole thing safely and for the many blessings we receive every day.

Windshield covered with deer organs and poo. Tried to restart car.
HA HA Turned over but sounded like it had no compression. I got out, Had to force the drivers door open not a good sign.

As soon as I got to the front of the car it became obvious I wasn't driving home or any where for that matter in my car. grill smashed into AC condenser smashed into radiator, into fan and then in to the Exhaust manifold that was snapped in two pieces at least thats what it looked like to me. I could see all this from the front of the car as it was pushed down and in. The front bumper or what was left of it was on the ground. The hood was still perfect. .

I looked back up the hill and noticed the deer was still flopping around. Once again I was glad I was armed. I got my son out of the car and walked back up the hill to where the deer was. I told him that we were going to kill her because she was suffering not because we were going to eat her. He said he knew and that he understood it was an accident.

Just as I put the doe out of her misery a car topped the hill. It was a nice lady with 2 babies sleeping in the back seat. As I was re holstering my weapon she rolled down the window and asked if I needed any help ? was my car drivable ? Only in east Texas. I asked if she could give me a ride to the next town where I could wait for my wife out of the heat. Then I looked in her car. It was packed with LARGE ride on toys. There would be no riding with her.

I am pretty sure I re injured my knee that was healing up when I was stomping on the brakes. I am going back to the orthopedist on Wednesday. Still gets me that the doe was even up and moving at that time of day. She must have been going for water. My son and I were sitting on the tail gate of my Honda element in The shade from the window waiting on my wife. I wasnt worried , we had plenty of water food and shade.

The first guy that came along after the lady with the babies turned around and came back to see if he could help us. He said he topped the hill saw the dead deer and then us and kinda figured we were stuck.Esp when he saw the front of my car in his rear view mirror.

He said he would drive us south until we met my wife coming north from Austin or could take us all the way to Austin if that was what we needed !!.
I told him that would be great that I needed to grab a few things out of my car. His eyes got kinda big when I started moving gun cases from my car to his .
He wound up taking me 140 miles to meet up with my wife. When we got there he wouldn't take any money for gas. I guess all the times I have done the same kind of thing paid off

My down time from hitting the deer to being under way again was 15 minutes tops . I was truly blessed.

As far as swerving it is kinda like NASCAR you head straight for the wreck/ Deer, Hog, Rabbit, coon, etc... It has worked every time up until this one. I have dodged more than a few on my way to Big Bend and back using this method.
